Team Olathe! Trip Minus 12 Days and Counting

Well, the Guatemala 2011 Team met today at Heart to Heart in Olathe.  It’s going to be a high energy, high success group.  Most of the contingent is made up of MidAmerica Nazarene University nursing students who will lead efforts to open a permanent clinic in Patanatic near Lake Atitlan. More on that in the days to come.

These students dedicated themselves and their program to building, opening and manning a full-service clinic in this out-of-the-way corner of Guatemala.  Lake Atitlan (Lago de Atitlan) is about 125 miles due West of Guatemala City and about 200 miles North by Northeast of the Pacific.

Beginning March 14th, we’ll be spending about a week in the region dedicating the clinic, checking on previous water filtration efforts sponsored by Heart to Heart and the Olathe Rotary Club and running a Marathon!?!

Our intrepid leader, “Don” Jorge Coromac, sprung the idea of running a Marathon with local community leaders and kids as a way to celebrate the opening of the clinic and promoting good health.  (I’m thinking that Wes and Nancy McCoy, Ed Simon and I will be passing out water on that day and we’ll let the 20-somethings pass us by as they celebrate their Marathon victory.)

We will attempt to report daily once the trip begins.  Please join our blog and ask questions and offer any suggestions as we progress.

Talk to you soon!

Michael

  1. Praying for you guys all the way! Wish I could have gone with again, but God's got to have some reason for keeping me stateside. You guys be His light and if you can, give Guate a big hug for me!
